This Is What You Came For By Calvin Harris Ft. Rihanna Interpretation

Today, I would like to interpret "This Is What You Came For" By Calvin Harris Ft. Rihanna.
[Post-Chorus: Rihanna]
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
Oh, oh

[Verse 2: Rihanna]
We go fast with the game we play
Who knows why it's gotta be this way?
We say nothing more than we need
I say "your place" when we leave

[Chorus: Rihanna]
Baby, this is what you came for
Lightning strikes every time she moves
And everybody's watching her
But she's looking at you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, oh, oh

[Post-Chorus: Rihanna]
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
Oh, oh

[Bridge: Rihanna]
Baby, this is what you came for
Lightning strikes every time she moves
Yeah

[Chorus: Rihanna]
Baby, this is what you came for
Lightning strikes every time she moves
And everybody's watching her
But she's looking at you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, oh, oh

[Post-Chorus: Rihanna]
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
You, oh, oh, you, oh, oh
Oh, oh
This is about a person who gets everybody's attention probably because of how awesome he or she is. Despite her great magnitude of awesomeness, the guy caught her attention. He probably wrote this song in honor of that. Also, this could be a salute to all the amazing people out there (like Rihanna in the song)!

One Call Away by Charlie Puth Interpretation

I would like to interpret a beautiful song called "One Call Away" by Charlie Puth today.

[Chorus]
I'm only one call away
I'll be there to save the day
Superman, got nothing on me
I'm only one call away

When we need people, we expect latency from them (Yes, even from Superman!). Charlie Puth is saying here that he is nothing like that, as he will always be there more than Superman can.

[Verse 1]
Call me, baby, if you need a friend
I just wanna give you love
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon

Reaching out to you, so take a chance

He is assuring her that he will always be there if she ever needs a friend because he loves her.

[Pre-Chorus]
No matter where you go
You know you're not alone

He is telling her that she is not alone because he is always only one call away!

[Verse 2]
Come along with me and don't be scared
I just wanna set you free
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon
You and me can make it anywhere
But for now, we can stay here for a while

Cause you know, I just want to see your smile

He is asking her to be courageous. He can see that this girl has problems and he wants to set her free. He simply wants to see her smile, which means that he only has good intentions for her.

[Bridge]
And when you're weak, I'll be strong
I'm gonna keep holding on
Now don't you worry, it won't be long

Darling, and when you feel like hope is gone
Just run into my arms

Aside from being only one call away, he will support her and will be strong for her even if she is weak; also, he won't give up on her.

Selfish Girls by Jake Miller Interpretation

Today, I would like to interpret to you "Selfish Girls" by Jake Miller.

Haha, that rang, that rang, that rang...

[Intro]
I was gonna write you a love song just the other day
So I sat down and thought real hard but nothing ever came
I took a walk downtown and it hit me like a train
So I grabbed a napkin and started scribbling away

(Referring to "Haha, that rang, that rang, that rang...") After you've heard the whole song, you'll figure out that this it is essentially the voicemail greeting of Jake Miller (Refer to the line later: And if you wonder why your phone ain't ringing. Call my voicemail, and I'mma start singing).

[Pre-Hook]
And I was like woah-oh, woah-oh
Sexy can't make up for crazy, no-oh, no-oh
And girl, you crazy as shit

On this Pre-Hook, Jake Miller is simply saying that he and his girl are not compatible, after all (Refer to the line "Sexy can't make up for crazy...And girl, you crazy as shit).

[Hook]
This song's for selfish girls
They want the whole wide world
They just want everything (We just want everything)
And they cry when the sky ain't blue
This song's for selfish girls
They want the whole wide world
I give them everything
And there ain't nothing I can do

This is sort of a breakup message to his girlfriend once she calls Jake (Refer to the line: And if you wonder why your phone ain't ringing). He is stating his reason for breaking up with her which is that she is too selfish for him.

[Verse 1]
Look, she walked into my life, all innocent and shit
And then she took my credit card and dipped
Gave me a kiss, then turned around and stole the keys to my whip
Aw man, what a selfish bitch
She was like, "See ya, I wouldn't wanna be ya"
Kidnapped my Visa then she hit the galleria
Let's have a moment of silence for what I say next
R.I.P to all my paychecks
Supermodel but the inside's ugly
Yeah, and I'm over it like a fraction
She loved herself way more than she loved me
Only cared about her Instagram captions
So this the last song I'm ever gonna write for ya
Go find a douchebag, maybe he'll be right for ya
And if you wonder why your phone ain't ringing
Call my voicemail, and I'mma start singing

He was captivated by his girl because he thought she was everything he was looking for. He then realized that she didn't care for him emotionally plus despite her beautiful appearance, she has an ugly attitude.

[Bridge]
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, yeah
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la
Look, I thought you were a dime but you loved me for my dimes
Selfish girls will be the death of me, this happens every time
I thought you were a dime but you loved me for my dimes
Selfish girls will be the death of me, this happens every time

A "dime" means being a perfect ten in terms of hotness (everything you are looking for in a person). Then, he says that she is only interested in his money.

Let It Go By Idina Menzel Interpretation

I would like to interpret to you today one of my favorite Disney songs, "Let It Go" by Idina Menzel.

[Verse 1]
The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a footprint to be seen

A kingdom of isolation
And it looks like I'm the queen

The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn't keep it in, Heaven knows I've tried

Snow implies something cold or sad. She is basically saying that she is the queen of sadness.

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Don't let them in, don't let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know

Well, now they know

When you are sad, no matter how hard you hide it, sometimes the truth will eventually come out.

[Chorus 1]
Let it go, let it go
Can't hold it back anymore

Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door

I don't care what they're going to say
Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway

She is accepting the truth (her sadness) and making something out of it

[Verse 2]
It's funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can't get to me at all

When we feel lonely, sometimes we should keep some distance to get a new perspective that could make us happy again.

[Pre-Chorus 2]
It's time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through

No right, no wrong, no rules for me
I'm free!

She is becoming a glass-half-full person here.

[Bridge]
My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around

And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I'm never going back, the past is in the past

Again, she is recognizing the upside of her situation which, in turn, makes her happy.

Sit Still, Look Pretty By Daya Interpretation

I love this song. It's very entertaining and informational.

[Verse 1]
Could dress up, to get love
But guess what?
I'm never gonna be that girl
Who's living in a Barbie world

Could wake up in make up and play dumb
Pretending that I need a boy
Who's gonna treat me like a toy

She's not the type of girl who objectifies life.

[Pre-Chorus 1]
I know the other girlies wanna wear expensive things and diamond rings
But I don't wanna be the puppet that you're playing on a string
This queen don't need a king

Again, she is not the type of girl who objectifies life.

[Chorus]
Oh I don't know what you've been told
But this gal right here's gonna rule the world
Yeah, that is where I'm gonna be because I wanna be
No, I don't wanna sit still, look pretty

You get off on a 9 to 5
Dream of picket fences and trophy wives
But no, I'm never gonna be cause I don't wanna be
Cause I don't wanna sit still, look pretty

This is perfect feminism. People may frown about her dreaming of ruling the world, but she doesn't care. Even the American Dream which involves working from 9 to 5, having picket fences, and trophy relationships won't hold her back.

[Verse 2]
Mr. Right could be nice, for one night
But then he wanna take control
And I would rather fly solo
That Snow White, she did right in her life
Had 7 men to do the chores
Cause that's not what a lady's for

The idea of being with "Mr. Right" entices her. She is on the look out still on the danger of someone controlling her life; because it isn't right.

She praises Snow White for being her ideal girl of being a feminist.

[Pre-Chorus 2]
The only thing a boy's gonna give a girl for free's captivity
And I might love me some vanilla, but I'm not that sugar sweet
Call me HBIC

Again, she is on the look out for anyone trying to control her and pull her down. On the last two lines, she emphasizes her feminism and being in charge.

She's Kinda Hot by 5 Seconds Of Summer Interpretation

Today, I would like to interpret a song from one of my favorite bands (5 Seconds of Summer): She's Kinda Hot, if you don't mind (using, again, genius.com).

[Verse 1: Luke & Calum]
My girlfriend’s bitchin' cause I always sleep in
She’s always screaming when she’s calling her friends
She’s kinda hot though
Yeah she’s kinda hot though

My shrink is telling me I've got crazy dreams
She’s also saying I've got low self-esteem
She’s kinda hot though
Yeah she’s kinda hot though

She put me on meds, she won’t get out of my head
She’s kinda hot though

The first line suggests that his girlfriend is always mad at him for being "lazy." The next one points out his girlfriend's bad attitude. He then still concludes that his girlfriend is hot anyway so it's okay (all's good).

The next lines are kind of the same as the previous lines; his girlfriend who also happens to be a shrink thinks that he has unrealistic expectations, and a low self-esteem. He again concludes that everything's okay because she's kind of hot. The last few lines shows that instead of working with his problems, his girlfriend chose the easy way out of giving him medications instead; still, he is contented because of her hotness.

[Verse 2: Luke]
My friend left college cause it felt like a job
His mum and dad both think he’s a slob
He’s got a shot though
Yeah, he’s got a shot though
When you've got bigger plans that no one else understands
You've got a shot though

This whole verse is pretty straightforward: Luke's friend left college because it was not right for him. His parents frowned upon it; regardless, he is optimistic about this friend's fate.

[Chorus: All]
They say we’re losers and we’re all alright with that
We are the leaders of the not coming backs
But we’re alright though
Yeah we’re alright though

We are the kings and the queens of the new broken scene
Yeah we’re alright though

Other people think that the people of this band are losers. However, they are okay with this as they are famous and supported by their fans, anyway.

"We are the leaders of the not coming backs" and "We are the kings and the queens of the new broken scene" are the same: They are part of the youth who inherits this world from their parents no matter what (even if they won't come back to being normal and regarded as losers, respectively).

[Verse 3: Ashton]
Sometimes I'm feeling like I'm going insane
My neighbour told me that I've got bad brains
But I'm alright though
Yeah we’ll be alright though
Cause we're the kings and the queens of the new broken scene
And we're alright though

Everybody thinks that 5SOS people are "insane." Also, people say that they are stupid because they dabble in rock.

New Romantics By Taylor Swift Interpretation

I'm not only blogging about this because it is nerdy. Aside from that, it portrays humanity. Today, I would like to share with you my interpretation of the song New Romantics by Taylor Swift through genius.com.

Verse 1

We're all bored, we're all so tired of everything
We wait for trains that just aren't coming
We show off our different scarlet letters
Trust me, mine is better

We're so young, but we're on the road to ruin
We play dumb but we know exactly what we're doing
We cry tears of mascara in the bathroom
Honey, life is just a classroom

On the first line, Taylor Swift both mocks and recognizes the young adult's sense of being bored of almost everything because of how much they expect in life (hello, fellow Millennials!). On the next one, she recognizes the existence of failures and disappointment. For her, it is part of being the "New Romantics." Then, regarding the scarlet letters, she talks about the characteristic of young  adults competing on whose scarlet letter is better.

Regarding the "We're so young, but we're on the road to ruin," it refers to how the other generation seem to expect this generation (the Millennials) to fail because of their traits like high expectations, self-confidence, and the like (you can read all about them on Wikipedia (Millennials)).

About the "We play dumb but we know exactly what we're doing," it refers to how girls think that they have to play dumb in order to be in a relationship which is an underlying tactic that is actually smart.

On the "We cry tears of mascara in the bathroom," Taylor Swift recognizes the truth that women sometimes cry for their boyfriends or partners.

Lastly, on "Honey, life is just a classroom," it is pretty straightforward: life is actually just a classroom where we learn stuff, we get bullied, smart people are revered, as well as rich and good-looking people, and the like.

Chorus

Cause baby I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me

And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream

Baby we're the new romantics
Come on, come along with me
Heartbreak is the national anthem
We sing it proudly
We're too busy dancing to get knocked off our feet
Baby we're the new romantics

The best people in life are free

On "Cause baby I could build a castle, out of all the bricks they threw at me," Taylor Swift shows off her ability to make something better and royal out of mean things like "bricks." Also, the word "bricks" rhymes with "castle," which is cool!

On the next line, she recognizes the hardship of life. Despite that, people like her (who are famous and successful) are envied by their peers, so it's all worth it.

On the, "Baby, we're the New Romantics" line, it is explained that Romanticism is an old idea you can learn from school. Young adults experience this romanticism but they always think that it is not that old romanticism taught in school. They think they are the "new" romantics.

On the "Come on, come along with me. Heartbreak is the national anthem. We sing it proudly. We're too busy dancing to get knocked off our feet. Baby we're the new romantics," it is clear that Millennials seem to not have the ability to make relationships lasts. It maybe because they are busy chasing fun ("We're too busy to get knocked off our feet").

On the last line, it is a play on the saying that "the best things in life are free." That saying is about money. Here, Taylor Swift thinks that the perspective of Millennials that they are the best generation ever is true.

Also, she recognizes that the best people in your life like friends and family doesn't have a price.

Verse 2

We're all here, the lights and noise are blinding
We hang back it's all in the timing
It's poker, you can't see it in my face
But I'm about to play my Ace

We need love but all we want is danger
We team up then switch sides like a record changer
The rumors are terrible and cruel
But honey most of them are true

The first line sets the atmosphere of partying where people get drunk and feel alive at the same time. The "We hang back it's in the timing" line expresses that there is a sweet spot in life: it is all in the timing. You have to get hold of this moment to be successful.

About the "It's poker, you can't see it in my face," Taylor sings that love is like poker! Stuff that happen in love is not always obvious all the time.

This line, "We need love but all we want is danger," it is expressed that sometimes, we seek danger in our life.

While on, "We team up then switch sides like a record changer," Taylor says that in life nothing is stable.

Lastly, on "The rumors are terrible and cruel but honey most of them are true," instead of being ashamed of all the "terrible rumors," Taylor Swift learned to accept them.

Breakdown

Please take my hand and
Please take me dancing and
Please leave me stranded
It's so romantic, it's so romantic

This whole "breakdown," shows that most people don't really know how to fall in love. Few people actually understand the science of love (wizard of love where are you?)
